Northern California deputies recover human remains. Body could be missing man
Northern California authorities are investigating human remains recovered Monday in a rural area and are attempting to identify the body.
Dirt bike riders found Sunday what appeared to be a dead person in an area difficult to access near the community of Clio, according to a news release from the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office. Clio, a census designated place, had 77 residents in 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue team and detectives went to recover the remains on Sunday but could not access the area until Monday. The remains, confirmed to be human, were found south of Highway 70 and west of Clio State Route 40A, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Investigators, according to the news release, found evidence that suggests the remains are that of Portola resident Anthony Evans. Evans was reported missing in December 2023, the Sheriff’s Office said.
However, decomposition, according to the news release, has prevented authorities from conclusively identifying the remains as of Monday.
The investigation is ongoing and an autospy is pending.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 530-283-6300.
