A Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Sunday in Citrus Heights on suspicion of driving under the influence and resisting arrest, authorities said.

Kevin Lloyd, 36, was arrested about 4:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of Mariposa Avenue. He also faces a third charge of loitering, according to the Citrus Heights Police Department.

“We are aware that Lloyd is employed with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and we are unable to release any further information at this time, as it is still an active investigation,” Lt. Nicki Garing, a spokesperson with the Citrus Heights Police Department, said Tuesday.

A person who answered a call to a phone number listed under Lloyd’s name declined to comment.

Officers were called to the scene Sunday for a request of suspicious circumstances, according to the Police Department’s daily activity log.

Dispatchers said Lloyd was standing in a homeowner’s backyard, according to archived audio dispatch calls reviewed by The Sacramento Bee.

Lloyd then went into a creek in the backyard, according to the audio.

Officers began talking to Lloyd and said initially he was “noncompliant,” according to the audio.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said it declined to charge Lloyd and sent the case back the Police Department for further investigation.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, said Lloyd was placed on administrative leave and referred all further questions about the arrest to the Citrus Heights Police Department.

Sacramento County jail records show Lloyd was released Sunday, the same day of his arrest.
