Sacramento man faces second homicide charge in fentanyl overdose death, police say
A Sacramento man — arrested in connection to a teenager’s fatal fentanyl overdose — is now accused of killing another teen by giving him the deadly drug, authorities said Tuesday.
The Folsom Police Department initially began looking into suspect Keon Taylor in connection to an overdose death last year. Officers were called just before 2 p.m. Dec. 13 to a suspected fentanyl overdose on the 100 block of Natoma Street in Folsom. They rendered medical aid to Matthew Fatooh, 19, who died later that day, authorities said.
As detectives began their inquiry into Fatooh’s death, they narrowed in on Taylor, 22, as a suspect, Folsom police said in a news release. The investigation led them uncover new “evidence” which linked Taylor to the overdose death of a 17-year-old boy who died in Elk Grove nearly four years ago, the news release said.
The new evidence led the Elk Grove Police Department to reopen the fentanyl overdose death of Keanu Apodaca Young, 17, the release said.
Taylor was arrested Jan. 8 on suspicion of killing Young. He died from a fentanyl intoxication, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, after he was found unresponsive at Jones Family Park in Elk Grove on April 22, 2021.
On Tuesday, Folsom detectives sought a second murder charge against Taylor in connection to Fatooh’s death. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office said the victim died of a fentanyl intoxication and acetyl fentanyl toxicity.
Taylor is being held without bail at the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is scheduled to appear in Sacramento Superior Court for a court hearing Thursday.
He faces two charges of homicide and transporting, selling and distributing drugs, according to the jail log.
