Suspect turns himself in after woman dies in Sacramento shooting, police say
A Sacramento man was arrested on homicide-related charges Friday night following the shooting death of a woman in a south Sacramento neighborhood, police said.
John Albert Binion, 64, turned himself in to the county jail and was booked after interviews with investigators, according to a Sacramento Police Department news release.
Police responded after 5:45 p.m. Friday to the 7500 block of Center Parkway to a reported shooting, where they found a woman dead from at least one gunshot wound, according to the news release. She was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel and had not been identified as of Saturday morning.
The incident took place in a church parking lot where a Narcotics Anonymous meeting had been taking place, which the man and woman were both believed to have been attending, said Police Department spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble.
Homicide detectives and investigators were working the scene, canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses when Binion turned himself in at the jail.
He was booked at 4 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of homicide and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to online jail records. He’s scheduled to appear in Sacramento Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon, jail records show.
The woman was identified by coroner’s officials as Dawn Nicole Wagner, 50.
