The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help identifying and locating two men accused of assaulting a cyclist and trying to steal his bicycle earlier this week near Placerville.

On Tuesday around 4:15 p.m., the two men allegedly approached the other man as he was biking on a path behind the Walmart near Missouri Flat Road, the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. They knocked him down and tried to steal his bicycle, but a witness stopped them by coming to the alleged victim’s aid, authorities said.

One of the alleged attackers then fled on foot by running down nearby train tracks, and the other ran away via the bike trail, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies said one of the alleged attackers is a 6-foot-tall man with long hair and an athletic build. He was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt and pants, a two-tone trucker hat and a dark gray backpack. The other man is a “tall male” with a thin build.

People with information are encouraged to call the sheriff’s non-emergency line at 530-621-5655.
