Teen arrested in south Sacramento fatal shooting of 16-year-old girl
A 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old girl over the weekend inside a south Sacramento home, authorities said.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies responded about 3:15 p.m. Sunday to a report of gunfire in the 8000 block of Chriswoods Court in the Florin area. The girl, identified by the Coroner’s Office as Ajanaye Antontte Wiltz, was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s officials said the boy had brought a firearm to the residence, where a group of juveniles was present. While the teens were handling the weapon inside the home, the boy shot Wiltz in the head and fled with the firearm.
Detectives later arrested the suspect in Stockton. He was booked into Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder. Authorities in a news release Tuesday said the boy had three outstanding felony warrants and prior arrests for weapons and sex crimes.
Investigators have not disclosed how the teen obtained the firearm. The case remains under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
