Crash kills two after speeding car hits redwood tree in Granite Bay, CHP says
Two people were killed early Sunday after the speeding vehicle they were in went off a residential road and crashed into a redwood tree in Granite Bay, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The deadly crash occurred about 3:15 a.m. along Eureka Road, just east of Bridle Path Lane in an unincorporated area of Placer County.
The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of a BMW M3 moving at a high rate of speed lost control of the car went off the north side of Eureka Road before crashing into the redwood tree, the CHP Auburn office announced in a news release.
The driver and a passenger in the BMW’s right front seat passenger died in the crash. CHP said on Sunday that the identities of the driver and the passenger had not been confirmed.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office, which operates as coroner, identified the victims as Kai Gini, 19, of Granite Bay and Keven Garcia, 18, of Roseville.
Eureka Road was closed for about four hours as CHP officers investigated the fatal crash.
Investigators asked anyone with information about the crash to call the Auburn CHP Area Office at 916-663-3344 or send an email to 220pio@chp.gov.
