A 65-year-old Nevada City man was arrested Saturday at his home on suspicion of sexually abusing a child younger than 10 years old, sheriff’s officials said.

On Saturday evening, authorities received a 911 call reporting that the man had sexually abused a child earlier that day at the man’s home in the 19000 block of Lone Lobo Trail, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday in a news release.

Sheriff’s deputies and detectives went to the suspect’s Nevada City home to investigate. Detectives arrested the man and booked him late Saturday on a felony sexual abuse charge at the Nevada County Jail.

The suspect remained in custody Monday at the jail. His bail amount was set at $500,000. Nevada Superior Court records show his arraignment had not yet been scheduled.

Sheriff’s officials, wanting to protect the child, did not indicate how the child knew the suspect.
