Teen hospitalized after ‘retaliation’ shooting in West Sacramento, police say
A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot multiple times Friday night in what West Sacramento police said is believed to be retaliation for a deadly shooting earlier in the week.
An arrest has been made in each shooting, police said.
Friday’s shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. near Linden Road and Allan Avenue, the West Sacramento Police Department said in social media posts. That is a third of a mile from Summerfield Park, where a shooting Wednesday afternoon resulted in the death of 16-year-old Adrian Carter of Sacramento, according to authorities.
Police on Saturday said their preliminary investigation indicates Wednesday’s homicide “occurred during a marijuana drug deal gone bad.”
A 19-year-old Sacramento man — identified as Adrek Isacc Miramontes — was arrested in connection to the first shooting. He remains in Monroe Detention Center without bail and is expected to be arraigned Monday, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said.
The victim in Friday’s shooting was described as a 16-year-old West Sacramento resident who was found by officers with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Police Department. He was hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
Police identified a suspect in Friday’s shooting, a 17-year-old juvenile, who was located early Saturday and taken into custody with help from the Sacramento Police Department. He was expected to be transported to jail in Yolo County, police said.
While both investigations remain active, police said Friday’s incident “appears to be a retaliation shooting.”
