Barricaded man deputies say broke into vacant Arden Arcade home in custody

Police tape at crime scene

A man whom authorities said barricaded himself in a vacant Arden Arcade home and threatened neighbors is in custody after surrendering to Sacramento County deputies on Sunday.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 4200 block of Oterol Court about 5:45 p.m., according to deputies. Residents said the 51-year-old man was armed after he had broken into a home and refused to leave.

The man was wearing a gun belt and holster when he was approached by residents, but authorities had not yet determined whether the man was attempting to impersonate a peace officer, spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi said.

Sheriff’s crisis negotiators and tactical officers were called to the home and were able to convince him to surrender, the Sheriff’s Office said. No one was hurt in the incident.

The man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, threats to commit crimes resulting in death or great bodily injury and resisting arrest. He was being held at Sacramento County Main Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail and was expected to appear on the charges Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court.
