1 injured in shooting as hundreds flee Sacramento house party, police say

A shooting amid hundreds of people fleeing a party late Saturday in the Valley Hi/North Laguna neighborhood left a man with a gunshot wound, police said.

Officers were called about 10:45 p.m. to a residence on the 8200 block of Sunbird Way for reports of a well-attended house party and a person armed with a gun, said Officer Allison Smith, a spokesperson with the Sacramento Police Department.

Gunshots rang out in the neighborhood as officers arrived on scene and partygoers scattered, she said. One man suffered a gunshot wound in the crowd, she added.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he is expected to survive, she said.

Investigators found shell casings in the area and saw two vehicles and two homes hit by gunfire, Smith said.

The investigation is ongoing.
