  • Rancho Cordova police arrested a 37-year-old man Tuesday for robbery.
  • A four-hour standoff ended with a peaceful surrender.
  • The suspect remains ineligible for bail ahead of a scheduled June 26 court date.

A man with “lengthy criminal history” was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on Tuesday morning on suspicion of robbing another man in Rancho Cordova, the Rancho Cordova Police Department said in a news release.

Rancho police said the robbery took place at roughly 8:30 p.m. on Moraine Circle.

After the robbery, deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, which is contracted to provide police services in the city of Rancho Cordova, engaged in a roughly four-hour standoff with the man while he was inside a house on the 2300 block of Moraine Circle, the release said.

“Citing his lengthy criminal history and learning information that he was likely armed, (officers) requested additional resources and personnel to attempt to call him out of the residence so he could surrender peacefully,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the release, officers extracted a female relative from the house before the man peacefully surrendered at 3 a.m. After his arrest, detectives later found the item he was holding — a pistol-shaped lighter, not a firearm.

The suspect, a 37-year-old man, is being held without bail and was expected to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on Thursday.
