Officials have recovered the body of a man who jumped off a bridge at Knights Landing Tuesday evening and did not resurface.

The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Cameron Birdsong, 25, of Live Oak.

Birdsong was one of two men who leaped from the bridge, which connects Yolo and Sutter counties, about 25 miles northwest of Sacramento. The other man was uninjured. An earlier report said bridge jumping was “not uncommon behavior” for the two men.

Birdsong’s body was recovered from the Sacramento River at about 6 p.m. Thursday after what officials called extensive search and recovery efforts from multiple agencies and dive teams.

The Knights Landing Boat Launch, which was closed during the search, is now being reopened for normal business hours, according to the sheriff’s office.
