Sacramento police arrest suspect after deadly North Natomas crash before dawn

Roadway fatality

Sacramento police have arrested a man suspected in a fatal hit-and-run collision early Monday in North Natomas.

The crash occurred just before 2 a.m. near Del Paso Road and Town Center Drive, police said. Officers arriving at the scene in the Creekside neighborhood found a man lying in the roadway. Sacramento Fire Department personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity after notifying his family.

The vehicle involved in the crash had left the area before officers arrived but police later located the vehicle and detained the driver, an agency spokesperson said.

Officers later arrested a 25-year-old Sacramento driver on suspicion of felony hit and run causing death, and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under a suspended or revoked license.

The suspect was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail and faces arraignment on the charges Wednesday in Sacramento Superior Court.

Sacramento police major collision and crime scene investigators were at the scene through the pre-dawn hours and authorities reopened the area to traffic just after 7:30 a.m.

Police asked anyone with information about the incident to call Sacramento Police Department dispatch at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
