  • West Sacramento school psychologist arrested after online sting operation.
  • Suspect faces charges including arranging a meeting with a minor and attempted kidnapping.
  • District placed employee on leave; no known victims identified at school.

A school psychologist in West Sacramento was arrested Thursday on suspicion of several crimes after trying to meet with the person behind an online profile he thought belonged to a girl but was actually an undercover investigator, authorities said.

Alejandro Figuerosa, 29, of Rancho Cordova, was booked Thursday into the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville without bail, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Monday. He faces charges including arranging a meeting with a minor, sending harmful material to a minor and attempted kidnapping, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Figuerosa pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday afternoon in El Dorado Superior Court, records show.

The Sheriff’s Office identified Figuerosa as an employee of West Sacramento’s Washington Unified School District and said it had identified no victims at the school where he worked. The district’s website lists Figuerosa as a school psychologist at Westmore Oaks Elementary School.

KCRA 3 reported that district administrators placed Figuerosa on leave after being contacted by the Sheriff’s Office during its investigation.

“We understand that this news may cause a range of emotions within our community, and we share your deep disappointment and concer,” the school district told KCRA. “The actions alleged are both shocking and completely unacceptable, and they do not reflect the values, integrity, or unwavering commitment to safety that define WUSD.”

The investigation by the Sheriff’s Office’s High Tech Crimes Unit began in early June, according to the Monday news release, which did not specify what prompted the undercover online sting.

Figuerosa drove to El Dorado Hills Town Center three times trying to meet the girl with whom he believed he was interacting online, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies encouraged people with information relevant to the investigation to contact Det. Aaron Cuddeback at 530-642-4724.
