An Oakland man was arrested but eight other suspects remain at large after a $1 million smash-and-grab robbery at a south Sacramento jewelry store earlier this month, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Nine people took over the jewelry store near Stockton Boulevard and Orange Avenue in south Sacramento about 1:15 p.m. July 6, pepper spraying a security guard at the door and bullying past customers and clerks with blunt objects to smash display cases and scoop up the jewelry, deputies said.

About $1 million in jewelry was taken in the heist, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s robbery detectives tracked the 30-year-old suspect to Hayward, where they arrested him and found a loaded handgun in his car. He was booked Monday into the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail on suspicion of robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The man is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Sacramento Superior Court.
