Police investigate homicide after man dies from shooting in South Natomas

Homicide investigation

A man was killed Thursday morning in a shooting in South Natomas that police are investigating as a homicide.

Sacramento officers responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. to the 2000 block of West El Camino Avenue for a reported shooting, according to Officer Allison Smith, a spokesperson for the department. They found a man with “at least one gunshot wound” and brought him to a hospital, where he later died, Smith said.

The events leading up to the shooting and any suspect involved remained unclear.

Homicide detectives and other investigators were examining the scene, Smith said.

Police urged any witnesses and residents with knowledge about the shooting to call the dispatch center at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357, with potential rewards of up to $1,000. Tips can also be submitted confidentially through the P3 Tips website and app, Smith said.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify the victim after his relatives are notified.
