Placer County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of attempting to rape a woman in a park outside Roseville Sunday afternoon — while other deputies on their way to the scene wound up in a car crash.

The woman was walking in Dry Creek Community Park in the late afternoon when a man appeared and tried to grab her, said Elise Soviar, a spokesperson for the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. The man exposed himself and followed the victim, who called 911 before she was able to run away from him, Soviar said.

Deputies responded to the woman’s report around 5:30 p.m., according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. They found the suspect in the park, Soviar said. Jail records show he is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Placer Superior Court.

The Sheriff’s Office took the suspect into custody without the help of two additional deputies who were responding to the park incident but became caught up in an incident of their own.

A patrol car occupied by the two deputies collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Baseline Road and Walerga Road — a point at the Roseville city border just over a mile north of Dry Creek Community Park — the Sheriff’s Office news release said.

One deputy and the other vehicle’s driver suffered minor injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
