Carmichael mother jailed in machete attack on 10-year-old child in shower

Police tape at crime scene

A Carmichael woman is in jail without bail Tuesday after authorities said she attacked her 10-year-old son with a machete while they were in the shower.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office investigators do not yet know what led to the Monday attack. Deputies were called at 8:30 p.m. to the home in the 5600 block of Angelina Avenue. The boy’s father also suffered wounds while trying to block the mother’s blows, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

The boy’s father was able to subdue the woman until deputies arrived. The boy was taken to a hospital for his injuries. Both the boy and his father are expected to recover from the attack, Gandhi said.

The woman, 41, is being held without bail at Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, and felony charges of corporal injury to a child and corporal injury of a spouse in the attack. She awaits a Wednesday arraignment on the charges in Sacramento Superior Court.
