Police find missing Nevada girl safe at Sacramento Greyhound bus station

Missing person found

A girl reported missing from her Nevada home was found safe by Sacramento police at a Greyhound bus station, and a 31-year-old Nevada man now faces kidnapping charges in her disappearance.

Sacramento Police Department officers located the Silver Springs, Nevada, girl at the Greyhound station, 420 Richards Blvd., about 9 a.m. Monday, and released her to her parents, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The girl was reported missing from her home in Silver Springs, about 40 miles east of Reno, 6:30 a.m. Monday. Lyon County deputies began their investigation as authorities placed the girl’s name into the National Crime Information Center as a runaway/missing person and called in Lyon County detectives to track down the child.

Lyon deputies and detectives tracked the girl’s disappearance to Gordon Alexander Bayne, 31, of Silver Springs. They learned that Bayne had taken the juvenile to Reno, knowing of her plans to leave Nevada, Lyon County officials said in their statement.

After the girl was found by Sacramento police, Lyon County deputies pulled Bayne over during a traffic stop. Officials said the man initially denied any role in the girl’s disappearance, but investigators later confirmed he had taken the girl to Reno and had tried to stop another juvenile from talking with law enforcement.

Bayne was arrested Monday afternoon and was being held in Lyon County custody on suspicion of a long list of charges, including kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, child neglect, intimidating a witness, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and obstructing a public officer, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said. Bayne was being held in lieu of $187,200 bail.

Lyon County authorities are continuing their investigation and have asked for the public’s assistance.
