Suspected DUI driver led 3 chases in Placer, Sacramento counties, Roseville police say
A 39-year-old Roseville resident was arrested Tuesday morning after a series of vehicle pursuits across Placer and Sacramento counties that began with a suspected DUI stop.
According to Roseville police, an officer attempted to stop the man around 5 a.m. near the 500 block of Riverside Avenue. The driver fled, police said, prompting a pursuit that was later called off due to high speeds on Interstate 80.
Officers later identified the suspect and spotted the white BMW again around 8 a.m. near Sixth and E streets, according to Roseville Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Nick Gaines. A second pursuit was initiated but called off due to the vehicle’s dangerous driving, he said.
The vehicle was later located by Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies, who attempted another stop. During that pursuit, the suspect allegedly struck a patrol car and escaped, according to Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office. He said deputies had tried to stop the vehicle using a pit maneuver.
The suspect’s vehicle then returned to Roseville, where officers pursued it again near PFE and Walerga roads. The man eventually fled on foot and was apprehended by a Roseville K-9 unit near Santucci and Vista Grande boulevards, Gaines said.
The driver is expected to be booked into South Placer Jail on charges including DUI, two counts of felony evasion and multiple outstanding warrants, Gaines said. Sacramento County authorities were expected to pursue additional charges related to their pursuit.
