3 people hospitalized after shooting near midtown Sacramento tapas restaurant

Police tape at crime scene

Three people were hospitalized after they were shot outside the Lock and Key tapas restaurant in midtown Sacramento early Sunday morning.

Police officers responded to reports of a person being shot in the 2700 block of J Street just before 12:45 a.m., said Officer Allison Smith, a Sacramento police spokesperson. There, they found three victims suffering from wounds not considered life-threatening. Each were taken to hospitals, according to police.

According to dispatch audio reviewed by The Sacramento Bee, a fight erupted outside the restaurant and at least one person reportedly had a gun. Officers at the scene requested medical attention for a security guard and two other people who suffered gunshot wounds.

The Lock and Key, which opened in November 2023, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday.

No suspect description was available, police said.
