Sacramento police detectives have arrested more other men on suspicion of homicide in the shooting of a 21-year-old man five months ago in the Upper Land Park neighborhood.

Darell Lamont Curry of Sacramento was killed in the May 14 shooting in the 50 block of Seavey Circle in the middle of a housing complex just west of Fifth Street in Sacramento.

The Sacramento Police Department announced on Wednesday that detectives on Sept. 4 arrested Johnnie Taviar Austin, 24, of Sacramento on suspicion of homicide in the Seavey Circle shooting. The department also announced that detectives on Tuesday arrested Deshannon Knowledge Malone, 19, of Sacramento on suspicion of homicide in Curry’s death.

Both men remained in custody Wednesday at the Sacramento County Main Jail. They are both ineligible for bail. Malone is scheduled to appear for his arraignment Thursday afternoon in Sacramento Superior Court.

Austin is scheduled to return to court Oct. 14, along with Xavier Bradely Barron, 23, who was the first suspect arrested in connection with the deadly shooting.

The shooting was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m. Officers arrived and found the wounded man who was later identified as Curry.

Police officers provided immediate aid to Curry before medics from the Sacramento Fire Department arrived and took the shooting victim to a hospital. Curry died later from his injuries.

Two days after the shooting, Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies spotted the suspect vehicle and tried to pull it over. Police said the driver, later identified as Barron, failed to stop and led the deputies in a pursuit.

Deputies eventually detained the driver in the suspect vehicle, according to the Police Department. Barron was booked by deputies at the jail on a felony charge of evading police by driving in a reckless manner. Police said homicide detectives later arrested Barron on suspicion of homicide in the Seavey Circle shooting.

The Police Department did not release any other details about the arrests of Austin and Malone.
