19-year-old killed in south Sacramento shooting identified by Coroner’s Office

Homicide investigation

Homicide investigators are piecing together the chain of events that led to a fatal shooting Friday night in a south Sacramento neighborhood.

Just before midnight, police were called to reports of gunfire in the 7700 block of 51st Avenue in the Glen Elder area. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to a statement from the Sacramento Police Department. Firefighters pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.

The shooting reportedly occurred during a backyard gathering, according to neighbors, though police did not confirm that detail to reporters on Saturday morning.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Roydrick Arnez Houston Jr. of Sacramento.

No suspect information has been released.

Police said that anyone with information is encouraged to call police at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357.
