Authorities arrested a Twin Rivers Unified School District employee who worked as a family and community liaison and is now accused of child sexual abuse.

Elton Desmond Thomas, 45, remained in custody Wednesday afternoon at the Sacramento County Main Jail. Thomas was booked at the jail on felony charges of sodomy with a minor, oral copulation with a minor and lewd act on a child 14 or 15 years old when the accused man was at least 10 years older, jail records show.

Thomas appeared for his arraignment hearing Tuesday afternoon in Sacramento Superior Court. He is scheduled to return to court next Tuesday for a bail review hearing, court records show.

“We are aware that an employee has been arrested by the Sacramento Police Department,” according to a Twin Rivers Unified written statement sent to The Sacramento Bee. “The employee has been placed on leave. Based on information currently available, there is no indication that the arrest is connected to our district. This is an active law enforcement investigation, and all inquiries should be directed to the Sacramento Police Department.”

School district officials did not respond to questions about what Thomas’s job was. It’s also unclear where within the school district he worked.

In a March 2024 Twin Rivers Unified flier for the “I Rise Conference” for middle school and high young men of color, Thomas was listed as a family and community liaison for the school district. Thomas worked with that job title for the school district in 2022 and 2023, according to compensation records provided by the state to Transparent California.
