A man who led Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies on a chase that ended in a crash and his takedown by a K-9 is in jail on numerous charges Tuesday.

The chase began about 9:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Power Inn and Elder Creek roads, the Sheriff’s Office said. The pursuit lasted about 20 minutes, the man leading deputies onto Watt Avenue at Fair Oaks Boulevard where the man’s car crashed into another vehicle. The Arden Arcade crash ended the chase before deputies sent in a K-9 to subdue the suspect, said sheriff’s officials.

The 35-year-old man — identified as Jaime Andres Ruiz — was bitten by the sheriff’s dog in the arrest. It was unknown if the driver of the other car was hurt. No deputies were injured in the pursuit.

Deputies later booked Ruiz into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony evading and reckless driving. Jail records show the man had been sought by California Highway Patrol officers on a misdemeanor warrant for charges including driving on a suspended or revoked license, driving an unregistered vehicle and failing to maintain insurance.

Ruiz was arraigned on the new charges Thursday in Sacramento Superior Court and released on $53,500 bail. He’s expected to return to court on Nov. 13 for a bail review.
