Two officers injured in assault at California State Prison in Sacramento
Officials are investigating an assault on two officers Saturday evening at California State Prison in Sacramento.
A news release from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said a 48-year-old inmate allegedly attacked the officers with an improvised weapon at about 7 p.m. Saturday during a cell search.
Physical force and chemical agents were used to stop the attack at the facility widely known as New Folsom, according to the release. Both officers were taken to an outside medical facility and are in fair condition.
The incident is under investigation as an attempted homicide and may be referred to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for possible felony prosecution.
