Nine people were arrested Thursday in connection with a pair of armed robberies at two Elk Grove high schools, Elk Grove Police Department said Friday.

Police said the group of seven juveniles and two 18-year-olds first hit Monterey Trail High School in the 8600 block of Power Inn Road, forcibly taking jewelry from at least one person before fleeing the campus.

The second robbery happened a short time later at Laguna Creek High School in the 9000 block of Vicino Drive, the Elk Grove Police Department said. The group again forcibly took jewelry from a person on that campus, according to officers. Police said one in the group also brandished a firearm.

Elk Grove detectives spotted the nine later identified as the team behind the two robberies in the parking lot of a nearby shopping center near Cosumnes River College just inside the Sacramento city limits. Several fled as officers approached but all nine were arrested about 4:30 p.m. and now face robbery and other charges.

Police later reviewed security camera footage that linked the nine to the two robberies, police said. Officers recovered the stolen items and a firearm believed used in the Laguna Creek crime, said department officials.
