Deputies arrest man in combat gear seen sneaking onto Sacramento school grounds
A man who sneaked onto Sacramento school campuses at night clad in military gear, stockpiled an arsenal of weapons and tactical items, and may have posed as law enforcement was arrested and briefly jailed after sheriff’s deputies took him into custody at his home.
Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies armed with search warrants took 29-year-old Dalmin Muran into custody last week on numerous felonies after recovering weapons, hundreds of gun components to build more weapons, items including smoke grenades and flash bangs and a collection of law enforcement patches from his home.
The seizure at Muran’s home came after an ongoing investigation into what sheriff’s officials said was “concerning and escalating behavior,” Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday.
Numerous guns taken in the warrant search had been modified and a short-barreled “ghost gun” was also found by deputies.
Sheriff’s officials said their investigation began after Muran was spotted on the grounds of several East Sacramento schools including Rosemont High School, citing one instance where he was seen by security guards clad in camouflage and other paraphernalia including a ballistic helmet and night-vision optics.
Officials said it was not known whether Muran was armed at the time. He left school property when told to do so but insisted the campus was a public space.
Muran also claimed to have served in the military in other instances, though authorities found no proof Muran had ever served, said sheriff’s officials.
Muran posted bond shortly after his arrest, said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators believe Muran may have identified himself as a law enforcement or attempted to enforce laws and are asking anyone who may have had suspicious contact with Muran to call the Sheriff’s Office Threat Management Unit at 916-875-5115.
