Sheriff’s homicide detectives arrested a Tennessee man accused of murder in the death of a woman reported missing 15 years ago in Sacramento County who still hasn’t been found.

Jonathan Simpson, 62, is accused of murder and criminal conspiracy in the death of Lynda Haynie who was reported missing in July 2010, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday afternoon in a news release.

Haynie was 39 years old when she was last heard from on June 30, 2010, according to a California Department of Justice missing persons flier. Authorities described Haynie as 5-foot-7, weighing about 150 pounds with blonde hair and hazel eyes.

Sheriff’s officials said Haynie’s acquaintances reported her missing. Her disappearance was investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Bureau. She has not been found.

In January, sheriff’s homicide detectives obtained new information on Haynie’s disappearance, which shifted the missing persons case into a homicide investigation.

Detectives identified Simpson as one of the people involved in Haynie’s disappearance. Simpson lives in Maryville, Tennessee.

Sacramento sheriff’s homicide detectives, along with Monroe County sheriff’s detectives, served a search warrant at Simpson’s home. The homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Simpson and arrested him Nov. 12 at his Tennessee home with help from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Simpson was later extradited and booked Saturday at the Sacramento County Main Jail. Simpson was arraigned Tuesday in Sacramento Superior Court.

Simpson is scheduled to return to court Dec. 30 for a bail review hearing. He remained in jail custody Wednesday and is ineligible for bail.
