DA: Man killed after I-80 pursuit pulled BB gun on Dixon officer before being shot
A Dixon police officer shot and killed a man Sunday night after a short vehicle pursuit that ended near a gas station off Interstate 80, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. in the 6800 block of Sievers Road, near a Chevron station, the Dixon Police Department said in a statement.
According to police, officers initially responded around 6 p.m. to a report of a vehicle stopped in the roadway on North First Street with no headlights on.
“According to a caller, the driver was staring straight ahead, eyes glossed over, and was unresponsive to knocking on his window,” the Solano County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement Monday.
When an officer tried to check on the driver, the vehicle drove away and entered eastbound I-80, police said. The vehicle exited at Pedrick Road and came to a stop.
“The driver displayed a black handgun while seated in his vehicle,” the DA’s Office said. “After refusing to comply with several officers’ commands, the driver got out of the car holding the handgun (later determined to be a BB gun) in his right hand and then raised it in the direction of the officers.”
One officer discharged his firearm, the DA’s Office said.
The man was taken to a hospital and authorities said he later died. No officers were injured, police said.
The Solano County District Attorney’s Office’s Major Crimes Task Force was investigating the shooting under the county’s critical incident protocol, police said.
