  • Sacramento police detectives obtained an arrest warrant on an attempted murder charge.

A 27-year-old man from Southern California was arrested early Sunday in connection with a downtown Sacramento shooting that wounded two people hours earlier, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The suspect, an Apple Valley resident from San Bernardino County, was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol officers and booked into the Placer County Jail a few hours after the shooting. Authorities said gunfire broke out shortly after 1:30 a.m. near Eighth and K streets, where two adults were shot.

Both victims suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, Sacramento police spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble said in an update Monday evening.

CHP officers arrested the man on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and obstructing or resisting a police officer — both misdemeanors, according to jail records. Gamble said Sacramento detectives have since obtained an arrest warrant charging the man with attempted murder.

The suspect is expected to appear for his arraignment hearing Tuesday in Placer Superior Court. It’s unclear when he will be brought to face the attempted murder charge in Sacramento County.
