Man arrested in connection with 7-month-old daughter’s death, Galt police say

A man was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the 2025 death of his infant daughter, the Galt Police Department announced.

Edgar Allan Bonifacio, 33, was taken into custody just before 7 a.m. by Galt officers and was expected to be charged with homicide and felony child abuse resulting in death. A warrant had been issued after charges were filed Monday in Sacramento Superior Court by the District Attorney’s Office.

The Police Department was notified in August by UC Davis Medical Center of suspected child abuse involving a 7-month-old infant being treated for severe head injuries.

Bonifacio said during the Police Department’s investigation that he was home alone with his daughter on Aug. 3 when she slipped from his arms and fell backward onto the floor, becoming unresponsive. He later contacted the child’s mother, who returned home, and the parents transported the infant to a hospital for medical care, police said.

“As the investigation progressed, medical findings determined the infant sustained injuries that were inconsistent with the explanation provided by Bonifacio,” officers said in a news release.

The child — identified as Natalia Cruz Felix — died on Sept. 21, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office, 49 days after arriving at the hospital.

The Coroner’s Office classified the death as a homicide, listing blunt force trauma to the head as the cause of death.

“Our family is experiencing an unimaginable loss. We are devastated and heartbroken as we grieve the death of our beautiful daughter Natalia,” the family of Felix said in a statement.

Bonifacio was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail later Tuesday. The DA’s office said he was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.
