Police: Second fatal victim in North Sacramento shooting had self-inflicted wound

A woman and a man were killed after a shooting Tuesday night in Old North Sacramento, the Sacramento Police Department said.

Officers responded about 8:45 p.m. to reports of gunfire in an industrial area of the 2200 block of Evergreen Street near Arden Way. At the scene, officers found an adult woman and an adult man, each suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said.

Despite firefighters’ efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, officers said in a Wednesday afternoon update.

According to police, the man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, and no suspect information was released.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was expected identify the victims’ names after notifying relatives. Homicide detectives have since taken over the investigation.
