2 hospitalized after crash turns into fight, shooting in Arden Arcade parking lot
Three people were injured Thursday evening in an Arden Arcade parking lot, authorities said — one shot, one in a vehicle crash and one in a related fight during an incident that also saw a fire engine hit by gunfire.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in a social media post just after 6:30 p.m. said two people were “critically injured,” one by gunfire and another in a “related vehicle crash,” in an incident near Fulton Avenue and Hurley Way. A third person was injured “during an associated fight,” sheriff’s officials wrote.
The two people who were seriously injured were taken to a hospital, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesperson Capt. Mark Nunez said.
Nunez said the incident, which was reported as a “vehicle accident” at 5:33 p.m., “turned into a violent crime assault with gunshots being fired.” Nunez confirmed that a Metro Fire engine was hit by gunfire but that no Metro Fire personnel were injured.
Photos of the incident shared by Nunez showed at least three vehicles with damage in the parking lot of the shopping center at the northeast corner of Fulton and Hurley. One of the vehicles came to rest on its side.
The parking lot is in a shopping center that includes a 24 Hour Fitness gym location and the All Mart grocery store, the photos showed.
Sheriff’s Office detectives and K-9 units remained at the scene as of 7 p.m. as the incident remained under investigation.
