2 arrested, 1 on run after string of break-ins in Auburn, Rocklin, Grass Valley
A white SUV linked to a string of early-morning break-ins across cities in Placer and Nevada counties was tracked to Sacramento on Thursday, leading to two arrests, authorities said.
Placer County sheriff’s deputies responded around 3 a.m. to a reported burglary at Max’s Deli and Third Eye Tattoo on the 11900 block of Heritage Oak Place in North Auburn. By the time deputies arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post, three masked suspects had already fled.
Investigators quickly identified the getaway vehicle — a BMW SUV — and determined it had also been connected to burglaries earlier that morning in Rocklin and Grass Valley, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
Placer County detectives worked with Rocklin Police Department property investigators to follow the vehicle into south Sacramento. With assistance from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped the BMW near 47th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to Placer deputies.
Two people were inside.
A 25-year-old male suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property and conspiracy, along with a Yuba County warrant for burglary and a parole violation stemming from a past commercial burglary conviction, according to deputies. A female suspect was arrested by Sacramento County authorities on charges in their jurisdiction.
“The remaining suspects are still at large, and investigators are continuing to search for them,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a social media statement.
Rustin Banks, Rocklin’s chief of police, said Thursday afternoon that collaboration between regional partners can strengthen communities.
“Thanks to the outstanding coordination between detectives from both the Rocklin Police Department and the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, we were able to quickly identify, track, and arrest a member of the group responsible for multiple burglaries that occurred across both jurisdictions,” Banks said. “This type of collaboration demonstrates how effective regional partnerships can be in holding offenders accountable and protecting our communities.”
Authorities and business owners interviewed by the Sheriff’s Office said an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the businesses. The investigation remained active.
