Authorities arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of homicide following a Tuesday evening shooting, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

The Lincoln Police Department around 6 p.m. received a 911 call from a man on the 1200 block of Hillwood Loop reporting that he had shot another person inside a residence after the individual allegedly approached him with a knife, the department said in a news release.

Officers and emergency medical personnel found a man inside the home suffering from multiple apparent gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Officers responded and detained 35-year-old Zachary Siegfried, the department said.

Police shared there was a search of the residence and area for physical evidence and potential witnesses with assistance from Placer County District Attorney’s Office investigators. A firearm was recovered from the residence.

Following interviews and evidence processing at the scene, Siegfried was arrested on suspicion of homicide and booked into the South Placer County Jail. He is due to appear in Placer Superior Court at 1 p.m. Thursday for his arraignment, online jail records show.

The investigation is in its preliminary stages with the circumstances being reviewed.

Department officials shared that a separate incident involving police near Lincoln Crossing Elementary on Wednesday morning was not related to the homicide and that both incidents are believed to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the community.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office plans to release the identity of the deceased once family members have been notified.
