Bomb threat called in to Mercy Hospital of Folsom, deemed unfounded after search

Police tape at crime scene

A bomb threat called in to Mercy Hospital of Folsom on Saturday evening prompted a lockdown and a multi-agency response, but officers later determined the threat was not credible, authorities said.

The threat at the hospital in the 1600 block of Creekside Drive was phoned in to the hospital switchboard and reported to the Folsom Police Department just before 7 p.m. Several officers were dispatched to search the facility, according to a department spokesperson. Folsom Fire Department crews responded minutes later.

Emergency personnel searched the 106-bed facility and no device was found, the police spokesperson said.

The hospital was placed on a temporary lockdown as a precaution, a Dignity Health spokesperson said. The lockdown has since been lifted “and all hospital operations have fully resumed.”

“The Folsom Police Department arrived immediately and conducted a comprehensive investigation, subsequently deeming the threat not to be credible,” a spokesperson for the hospital said. “We are grateful for their swift response.

Witnesses at the scene said police appeared to focus on bathrooms inside the Emergency Department during one part of the search.

The investigation remained ongoing and police said officers were expected to remain at the scene for some time.
