Lincoln police cite suspected gang ties in 4 arrests for firearms-related charge
Lincoln police arrested four people on suspicion of weapons violations in downtown Lincoln on Saturday.
The Lincoln Police Department said officers stopped a vehicle carrying five people after observing behavior they described as suspicious and an apparent attempt to avoid officers.
“When the officers made contact with the vehicle and its occupants, they observed a loaded Glock handgun with an extended magazine in plain view inside the vehicle,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Police arrested three men — ages 18, 19 and 20 — along with a juvenile on multiple charges.
Officers said in a social media post announcing the arrest that some of the individuals were believed to have gang ties.
“Officers found multiple indications that some of these individuals were suspected Sureno gang members,” the post said.
Police described the arrest as part of a proactive policing effort.
“Gang members and their affiliates possessing firearms illegally in Lincoln is unacceptable,” the social media post said.
