A 41-year-old nanny accused of abusing a child in her care at a Lincoln park last month was arraigned on felony child abuse charges.

The charges stemmed from a March 16 incident at Markham Ravine Park on Toyon Circle. Lincoln police responded to a welfare check after a caller reported seeing a child being abused by an adult woman.

Two witnesses followed the suspect, identified as Suzanne Michelle Buhler, to a nearby residence, where officers continued their investigation.

Officers later arrested Buhler on suspicion of felony child abuse, police said. Jail records showed she was released the same day.

Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire’s office said Monday that prosecutors had filed felony child abuse and corporal injury to a child charges against Buhler.

Buhler appeared in court Monday morning and remained free on $100,000 bond, according to court documents.

“The defendant pled not guilty to the charges and the District Attorney’s Office asked for supervision terms including GPS monitoring, regular check-ins with the Probation Department, a ban on working professionally in childcare services and having no contact with the professional site www.care.com,” the DA’s Office said.

Her next court date was scheduled for May 14.
