Officials on Wednesday identified one of two riders killed in a suspected DUI crash involving a speeding pickup Monday night in the Mather area of Sacramento County, and named the man arrested in connection with the collision.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified Myroslav Kulinich, 20, of Sacramento, as one of the victims. The name of the other 20-year-old Sacramento man killed in the crash will be released after next of kin are notified.

The California Highway Patrol’s East Sacramento office identified the suspect as Jihvon Jessenadea Thompson, 24.

Thompson was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on five felony charges, including two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office records.

Thompson fled into nearby fields after the crash but was later identified and arrested at a Sacramento County residence, CHP said. He is being held on $560,000 bail, according to jail records.

Thompson will be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on Thursday.

About 9:17 p.m. Monday, CHP officers responded to Eagles Nest Road near Woodring Drive to reports of a crash involving a Nissan Titan traveling at a high rate of speed and two e-motorcycles stopped at a stop sign.

After striking the e-motorcycles, the Nissan collided with a Toyota Corolla before crashing into a ditch, CHP said.

Officer Angie Monroe, a spokesperson for CHP’s East Sacramento office, said Tuesday that four people were in the Nissan. In addition to Thompson, another passenger fled into the fields and was detained before being released, Monroe said.

The other two passengers suffered moderate to severe injuries and were hospitalized, she said.

“This devastating crash is a stark reminder of how fragile life truly is,” Lt. Brian Maynard, commander of the CHP East Sacramento office, said in a news release. “We encourage all drivers to stay attentive behind the wheel, obey posted speed limits, and prioritize traffic safety on every trip.”
