CHP seeking driver after motorcyclist, 41, killed in Florin Road hit-and-run collision
Officers are seeking the driver in a deadly hit-and-run collision Monday that killed a motorcyclist on Florin Road near Power Inn Road, officials with the California Highway Patrol South Sacramento office said.
CHP officials said the 41-year-old motorcyclist was coming to a stop at the traffic signal on eastbound Florin Road at Power Inn Road about 6:27 p.m. Monday when the westbound driver of a blue Nissan Maxima or similar sedan pulled into a left-turn pocket for a business park at the northwest corner of Power Inn and Florin roads.
The Nissan driver then made an illegal U-turn into the path of the motorcycle, causing the motorcyclist to crash broadside into the passenger side of the sedan. The collision threw the rider onto the right shoulder and bicycle lane of eastbound Florin Road against a raised concrete curb. The rider was pinned underneath his motorcycle, CHP officials said.
The sedan driver fled the scene and was seen driving east on Florin Road approaching Power Inn Road, CHP officials said.
Emergency responders freed the motorcyclist and took him to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, officers said. Sacramento County coroner’s officials will release the man’s name after notifying his next of kin.
CHP officials are now seeking the blue sedan, which was described as having “significant” broadside damage to its passenger side and a deployed passenger-side airbag.
South Sacramento CHP officers continue to investigate the fatal collision and are asking for the public’s help.
