West Sacramento police arrested suspect in Bad Bakers vandalism case
West Sacramento police have arrested the alleged vandal who damaged a local doughnut shop, the department announced in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Officers received reports of a possible burglary at the Bad Bakers doughnut shop in the 2000 block of Town Center Plaza on Friday morning. When officers arrived, they found the store’s front window shattered. Surveillance footage recorded Thursday night shortly after the shop closed about 8 p.m. appeared to show a single suspect throwing a rock through the window and fleeing on a bicycle. No merchandise was stolen, police said.
Half of the Bad Bakers storefront was boarded up on Friday morning — National Donut Day, celebrated on the first Friday of June.
“Last week’s vandalism at Bad Bakers was upsetting for many in our community,” the department wrote in a Sunday evening Facebook post. “We are pleased to share that, with the assistance of community members, West Sacramento Police have identified, located, and arrested the suspect responsible.”
Following the incident, police circulated a photo of the suspect, who appeared to be wearing a blue shirt, khaki pants, a backpack and a bicycle helmet, in an effort to identify the person involved. The suspect’s identity had not been released as of Monday.
Bad Bakers, a local family-owned chain, celebrated the grand opening of its West Sacramento outlet on April 26, just over a month before the vandalism.
