Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives on Tuesday arrested a man in the Bay Area in connection with a deadly shooting last weekend inside an Arden Arcade liquor store.
Xander Burnside, 28, was arrested on suspicion of homicide in the shooting of Kenneth Raypaul Peace, 31, of Sacramento at Prestige Wine and Liquor in the 1000 block of Howe Avenue.
Detectives with the sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau found Burnside Tuesday afternoon in the Bay Area town of Pinole and took him into custody without incident, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release.
Burnside was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail. He was being held without bail.
The shooting was reported about 11:20 a.m. Saturday at the Howe Avenue liquor store near Enterprise Drive in Arden Arcade.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies arrived and found the man, later identified as Peace, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The deputies began life-saving measures until medics arrived. Peace was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting suspect left the area before deputies arrived. Homicide detectives took over the shooting investigation.
Using security camera video and witness statements, detectives identified Burnside as the shooting suspect, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The detectives subsequently obtained an arrest warrant Burnside on the homicide charge.
