Police tape blocks entrance to a convenience store in San Luis Obispo County.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged in the shooting of an 18-year-old man following a dispute last week, Elk Grove police said.

The juvenile suspect was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and additional firearm-related charges by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, according to a statement Wednesday from the Elk Grove Police Department.

Investigators determined the victim and suspect had been involved in a dispute at a festival in Sacramento. On June 10, the victim and several friends arrived at the suspect’s home near Raycroft Way for an apparent confrontation, and the suspect and several family members met the group outside, police said.

The suspect allegedly chased the victim and his friends before removing a firearm from his backpack and firing two rounds, police said. The victim was shot once in the back.

The suspect was arrested that night, and the victim was recovering in a hospital, police said.
