An ex-Twin Rivers Unified School District teacher accused of taking money from her school’s student body bank account over a two-year span pleaded not guilty Thursday in Sacramento Superior Court to felony embezzlement and grand theft charges.

Cinnamon Mary Trimpey, 57, entered the pleas before Sacramento Superior Court Judge David Bonilla. The ex-Rio Linda High School teacher was arrested on the allegations earlier this week by Twin Rivers district police and booked into Sacramento County Main Jail.

Trimpey posted bond Wednesday and was released from sheriff’s custody. Though she was arrested earlier this week, the charges date back to 2022, court filings show.

Trimpey remains free on bond ahead of a scheduled July 15 preliminary hearing in Sacramento Superior Court.

Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office prosecutors allege the former teacher took an undisclosed amount of funds from Rio Linda High’s Knights Armor Associated Student Body between December 2022 and March 2024, when the school’s principal noticed discrepancies in the student body’s bank account, court documents showed.

Trimpey also faces a felony charge of obtaining money by false pretenses. The charge alleges a person knowingly defrauded another by using false or misleading information to obtain money, property, credit or a loan.

Prosecutors allege Trimpey opened a private bank account to conduct the Associated Student Body’s business, allowing the alleged deeds to go undetected.

Twin Rivers Unified officials declined to discuss the arrest following Trimpey’s Wednesday release, citing it as an employment matter, but confirmed the former teacher is no longer employed by the district.

District records and employees union records indicate she taught at Rio Linda High School from August 2022 through at least 2024.
