A man crossing Mack Road in south Sacramento early Saturday was struck by a hit-and-run driver – then hit by a second vehicle – and later died, according to police.

The man, whose name was not released, was crossing Mack Road near Archean Way just before 1 a.m. when he was hit by the first vehicle, police said. Before witnesses could come to his aid, the victim was hit by a second vehicle. The second vehicle stopped and remained on the scene until police arrived.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The alleged hit-and-run vehicle was traveling westbound on Mack Road when it struck the man, according to police. Investigators are reviewing surveillance cameras in the area, but so far have not released a description of the vehicle.
