The name of the woman who died in a south Sacramento highway car crash that also badly injured her small child earlier this week has been released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Francine V. Thomas, 22, of Rancho Cordova died and her 5-year-old daughter suffered major injuries Wednesday night when her car rear-ended another vehicle on Highway 99 in south Sacramento.
Thomas was traveling northbound on Highway 99 just north of the Fifth Avenue overpass at a high rate of speed in a slow lane at about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday when her car collided with the rear of another vehicle traveling at 55 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Thomas was not wearing a seat belt and her daughter was not in a child’s passenger seat, according to a CHP press release. The little girl was wearing a seat belt.
