Q: What is the status of the case regarding Jeremy Xavier Ybarra, who was arrested on suspicion of a double homicide and weapons charges in the deaths of two people in 5200 block of Kenneth Avenue in Carmichael? The victims were Breeze Hubbard and Jon Colbert.

A: Jeremy Xavier Ybarra, 36, remains in Sacramento County Jail awaiting trial in the December 2014 shooting deaths of Carmichael residents Breeze Hubbard and Jon Colbert.

According to Sacramento Superior Court records available online, Ybarra’s next court date is June 17 for a trial readiness conference. His trial currently is set for July 12.

The Sacramento Bee reported that Ybarra was arrested Feb. 12, 2015, for outstanding domestic violence and firearm-related charges. During his apprehension, Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives found that he had numerous illegal weapons. Further investigation led detectives to suspect that he was responsible for the killings of Hubbard and Colbert.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District firefighters requested that sheriff’s deputies respond to a residence in the 5200 block of Kenneth Avenue about 7:15 a.m. Dec. 12, 2014, for a report of a man who was not breathing in the home. Deputies arrived and found the bodies of Hubbard, 37, and Colbert, 49. Sheriff’s officials said at the time that detectives believed Ybarra and the victims were acquainted.
