It’s their moment: See Warriors cross the stage as Sacramento graduations near end

The high school journey for Hiram Johnson’s students came to a close Wednesday with familiar themes in a new location.

Like other large Sacramento City Unified School District high schools, Johnson’s end-of-year honors took place indoors at the Sacramento Convention Center — at a smaller, less exposed venue than the location of recent graduations at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.

The school district traditionally has the latest start and end dates in the Sacramento region.

A district spokesperson earlier this year said that the relocation from the ballpark was primarily about the potential for summer heat, although concerns about the site’s schedule with two baseball teams also played a role.

Despite the location change, the commencement was full of proud parents, festive emotions and colorful mortarboards. Outside, the high temperature in Sacramento was a surprisingly cool 81 degrees Fahrenheit.
